derek & bethany

kate and i love being regulars at restaurants. it’s a good feeling when you walk into a place, and someone knows your name. kinda like cheers. anyway, i say that because it’s how i ended up meeting derek. when i delivered coffee for a living, i’d go to taqueria del sol in decatur every tuesday, and sometimes the following friday. we struck up conversations and ended up becoming friends. i was so excited when he got engaged to bethany, and honored when they asked me to shoot their wedding. they got married at a private residence in lake rabun, ga. the weather was perfect, they both looked awesome, and it was a great day. they put every bit of themselves into this wedding. bethany made the bars and seating cards, and she collected plates from different estate sales for over a year. she even carved a d + b in a heart on their cake stand. they left the wedding in a vintage boat. it’s weddings like this that make me so happy to have this job. thank you to derek & bethany, and thanks to jared, as always, for shooting with me. enjoy.

had an awesome time with these two. i came up on this spot the day before their shoot, and was so happy to have found it. they’re getting married at JCT kitchen this fall, so we wanted to find something green and natural for this session. i think we succeeded. thanks to stephanie & kevin for trekking around in the tall grass and being totally awesome. can’t wait for this wedding in october. enjoy.

love this family. i had been looking forward to this shoot ever since we planned it. matt works at the best men’s clothing store in town, sid mashburn, and we’ve developed a friendship over the years. his wife, kristy, teaches kindergarten at the elementary school i went to. it’s such a small world sometimes. thanks to owen & lucy for dealing with the cold—it was one of the windiest days we’ve had in a long time, and they were troopers. thanks again, lamberts. enjoy.

ryan & tyne engaged

from the moment i read that ryan & tyne were engaged (on a social network you may have heard of called facebook), i was hoping they would ask me to shoot their photos. i’ve never asked someone if i could take their wedding pictures before, but i heavily debated it this time. luckily, tyne reached out to me, and we were able to make this happen. ryan has played in numerous bands for years, and i’ve been a fan of pretty much all of em. some of my old bands even got to play with his. i drove up to nashville for the weekend, and when i got there, tyne had picked out the perfect location. a friend of hers owned some property out near leiper’s fork, and it was beautiful. i loved hanging out with these two, making some photos, and then of course having some great drinks at patterson house. thanks again, ryan & tyne. enjoy.

jordan ann & aaron engaged

i’ve known these two for quite a while now, and i was extremely happy when they asked me to photograph their day. jordan ann and i work together on the ATL Collective every month, and aaron is a talented musician and coffee fanatic—so naturally, we get along really well. we managed to pick the windiest day in atlanta this year, but we used it to our advantage. such a fun session, and i can’t wait for their wedding in september. enjoy.

these two are troopers. they were more than willing to hike, walk in water, and climb all around the woods near emory. the rain held off for us, and we were able to have a great shoot. laura & wat are so great together, and i’m so happy to be shooting their wedding at serenbe in may-especially since there will be two dogs as a part of their wedding party. did i mention i love dogs? enjoy.

it’s been awhile. happy to be back at it though. mike and katie were a joy to hangout with. it’s always nice to meet face to face after talking on the phone or emailing back and forth. katie has an infectious laugh and mike is as laid back as they come. really looking forward to their wedding at puritan mill in may. enjoy.

two thousand & eleven

2011. what a year. in may we bought a house, and i quit my job to go full-time with photography. shot medium format for the first time, went to italy (twice—thanks scott), france, and newfoundland. i never would have guessed even 5 years ago that i would be doing this. thank you so much to my incredible wife kate for supporting me and being a total babe.

to clients for trusting me and my vision, and allowing me to do this—you guys give me the best job ever. thank you.

to the photographers i’ve looked up to, been super annoying and asked way too many questions, advice, and direction—thank you.

oh, and leon says merry christmas.

i know i’ve already said this, but i really like these two. felt like i was hanging out with friends all day. as wedding photographers, that’s what we hope for. ryan and cynthia were married at princeton theological seminary in new jersey, and their reception was at albemarle boys school. the wedding was relaxed, beautiful, and elegant. there was never any pressure to finish one thing and go to the next. ryan’s best man’s speech was the best i’ve ever heard, and they had incredible readings from friends and family during the ceremony. ryan even played drums at the reception. alright, i’m gonna stop rambling now so you can see for yourself. i was lucky to have matt from tin sparrow studio shoot with me, so a big thanks to him for being awesome. enjoy.

ryan & cynthia | day before session

these two are great, plain and simple. ryan saw some photos from my own wedding on a friend’s blog, found my website from there, and contacted me more than a year ago. after our first conversation, talking about their wedding details, and learning that they were about to go on a world backpacking trip, i couldn’t wait to work with them. when i got to new jersey, i finally met them both in person for a casual shoot the day before the wedding. i loved seeing them together, and talking in-depth about their trips and their lives. i didn’t want to leave after the wedding. here are the photos from our day-before session, and keep an eye out for their wedding later this week. enjoy.
